This page is dedicated to my old 1992 BMW M5
(European Version)
I sold the car in 2001 to Allan B. Additional details at the time of sale can be found here.
The car looks black, but it is a dark graphite color known as Diamondswartz -- Diamond (metalic) Black.. This is a European spec car with the engine rated at 340 hp and 295 lb. ft. of torque. The car has 4 doors (obviously) an trunk with a pass through for carrying skis. Probably won't have much use for that here in Texas. Power driver AND passenger seat, sunroof, power windows, locks, etc. The steering wheel extends but doesn't tilt.
BMW's advertising slogan for the M5 was "Just your average 150 MPH family sedan."
It was time for some new tires and what better way than to smoke up the old ones. It was a little windy this day so the smoke wouldn't stick around. I needed a little water to get things rolling. The car hooks up pretty well, so I had to rev the motor to about 3500 RPM and dump the clutch to get it to spin. Lots of rubber was left on the pavement.
Body
The following images were taken one day when I became brave and decided to clean all the bugs out of the air conditioner condenser and radiator. The front grill or "kidneys", as they are called, are not easily removed. To get that off and get to the condenser, I had to remove the front bumper. Here's that they looked like. The first two show what the front end looks like with everything removed. I also discovered during this adventure that the aux. cooling fan was locked up and needed to be replaced. The second two show some of the stuff that came off during the process and the last one is the bumper and grill assemblies.
Projects
I purchased the car with an engine defect that I was not aware of. I found out a few weeks later, but too late then. Starting back in March of 1999, I began the extended project of rebuilding my engine. The defect was low compression in the #6 cylinder but soon showed that the entire bottom end of the engine needed rebuilding. If you would like to see how, what, where, and all the gory details of the project, visit my project page.
